A masking set at the ADVANCED level for the upgraded F-5E Tiger III, 1:48 scale. A scope between the entry and the top level.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F-5 design came about as a cheap export fighter for allies who could not afford a Phantom. A small airframe, two J85 engines and simple maintenance meant, however, that the aircraft stayed in service for decades after its contemporaries had ended up in the scrapyard. The Chilean version designated Tiger III is among the furthest developed rebuilds of this family and kept the machine combat capable into the twenty-first century.
ADVANCED lies between the entry and the top level. Its scope is markedly wider than the entry rendition. The exact list of parts is not stated here.
In 1:48 scale the frame of an F-5E canopy measures about half a millimeter. With hand cutting the width changes with every further strip, and an asymmetry is immediately noticeable after spraying, because the eye compares the left and the right side. A machine-cut shape rules that difference out.
First polish the canopy and, if need be, dip it in a polish for clear parts, then fit the masks and only at the end glue the canopy to the fuselage. The opposite order tends to end with a mask that cannot be pressed down properly at the root of a frame. After spraying, remove the individual pieces by pulling along the frame, never perpendicularly upward, or the edge of the paint will lift with them. Wipe any remaining wisps of adhesive off with a cotton swab moistened in alcohol, not with thinner.
