1:32 Hungarian National Insignias and Numbers (1990-1998) Dry-Water Decal Sheet

A tricolor instead of the star

The change of political regime showed on Hungarian aircraft quickly and visibly. At the turn of 1990 and 1991 the star disappeared from the airframes and was replaced by an arrangement of triangles in the national colors lined up one after another, green inside, white in the middle and red outside, pointing in the direction of flight. It differs at first glance from the circular roundels of most European air forces, so a model does not hide its origin even from the other side of the room.

The period captured was an unsettled one in the Hungarian Air Force. Machines of Soviet origin were nearing the end of their service, new types were arriving, units were being remarked and color schemes changed along with them. For a modeler that means a varied choice of subjects: one and the same type can look completely different with these markings than its counterpart from the previous decade.

A large scale rewards good printing. The triangular marking has sharp inner edges and color transitions on which imprecise registration shows at once; here the edges are clean and the film thin, so once dry it practically merges with the paint.

The working procedure does not differ from other decals; it is just worth reckoning that a larger area needs more water and more time. Seat the decal from the top downward, draw off the excess water with soft paper and wait with any further varnishing until the film has dried completely. You will not find the aircraft or the chemicals in the package. The reward is markings that keep their sharpness on a large model even under a magnifier, and do so on the rounded surfaces of the fuselage too.
