A masking aid for models of the Spitfire in the Mk.IX, Mk.IXE, Mk.XVI and Mk.VIII versions in 1:48 scale from kits of the ICM brand.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Spitfire Mk.IX came about as a quick answer to the new generation of German fighters: a stronger Merlin with a two-stage supercharger was built into the established airframe. The Mk.XVI version was technically the same thing, only with an engine built under license. The Mk.VIII had a strengthened structure and a retractable tailwheel compared with them and stayed rather with the machines committed outside Europe. The letter E in the designation Mk.IXE belongs to the later arrangement of the armament in the wing. In appearance all four versions stayed very close to one another.
The aid is worked out for 1:48 scale and is tied to Spitfire kits of the ICM brand in the versions stated. With kits from other makers the shapes need not fit. Which part of the model the mask covers and how it is fitted is shown by the manufacturer's instructions; proceed according to them.
Fit the mask before spraying, not after the paint has dried. The base must be clean, dry and degreased, otherwise the paint will run under it. Check that the mask is flush with the surrounding surface everywhere and nowhere stands above the outline. Apply the paint in thin coats; one thick coat piles up at the edge of the mask and leaves a step there once it is taken off. Take the mask off once the paint has dried, not long afterward; tweezers help more than a fingernail.
The subject of sale is this aid. The kit, the paints and the glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
