A replacement return spring sleeve for the Gaahleri airbrushes of the Swallowtail line. It gives the trigger back a smooth return action at the moment the original part wears out or dried binder clogs it.

The Swallowtail is the top line of the Gaahleri brand and, as with every gravity-feed airbrush, what decides the result is how precisely the needle returns into the seat of the nozzle. The return is taken care of by the return spring housed at the back of the body, and it is precisely this sleeve that holds it on the axis. An inconspicuous component thus carries the whole return action of the trigger.
Replacement comes in turn at the moment when the trigger stops springing evenly, sticks halfway through its travel or returns more slowly than before. That is usually caused by hardened binder which gets into the thread, or by wear after hundreds of hours of work. A good deal can be cleaned, but once the thread is worn out, a new part is the only sensible solution.
Spring sleeves are listed in three forms according to the type of airbrush and they are not interchangeable with one another. Besides this one for the Swallowtail there is a separate version for the GHAD-68 model and another for the Mobius TG line. What decides is the designation on the body of the airbrush, not the appearance of the part, because the differences are in tenths of a millimeter.
Taking an airbrush apart as far as the spring is at the same time a good opportunity for a proper service. It pays to look at the needle seal, to run something through the channel of the nozzle and to check whether remains of paint have settled at the back, which get here while the cup is being filled over the rim.
After work on the rear part it pays to put the airbrush together dry and to try the action of the trigger before pouring paint into the cup.
