15th Waffen Grenadier Division Of The SS - 1st Latvian Plaque 25mm from Dynamo-Models is a plaque with the badge of the 1st Latvian division. An accessory for a diorama, not a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
A plaque 25 mm in size with the badge of the grenadier division the name designates as the 1st Latvian. It is not a model but a diorama accessory: a label that gives a finished scene its nameplate. It is settled on the front of a base, on a wooden plinth or on a shared strip with which a collector labels a whole display case. In the Dynamo-Models range the same badge also exists in a 40 mm size, so small vignettes and large scenes can be marked in the same style.
The division was raised at the beginning of 1943 from Latvian units and together with another Latvian formation made up the body known as the Latvian Legion. It was committed on the northern sector of the Eastern Front, where it took part in defensive and withdrawal fighting. It then withdrew westward across the Baltic region and Pomerania and spent the end of the war in the area of northern Germany. In postwar literature the soldiers of both Latvian divisions are given as a significant chapter in the history of the Baltic region in the twentieth century.
Withdrawal and winter scenes call for muted colors, but the plaque has to stay legible: so leave the ground beneath it smooth and free of texture paste. Apply the base in a thin layer and bring the badge out with a lighter tone rather than with white, which over a small area will outshine its surroundings. When you are labeling several models, keep every plaque at the same height above the edge of the plinth, so that the collection reads as a unit.
