The designation 4BO covers the Soviet protective green paint used on combat vehicles. It is a dark, muted green with no pronounced sheen, which modelers take as the starting tone for Soviet tanks and other vehicles. The set from the ATOM range is built on exactly that.
Modulation painting means that a uniform area is broken up into several shades of the same color: horizontal surfaces and upper edges are lightened, while corners and lower areas stay darker. The model thus gains depth that a single flat coat could not give it, because at scale the soft play of light that a real vehicle has is missing. The set makes this approach easier by bringing together shades derived from one base tone, so you do not have to mix them yourself and the result is repeatable even after a break in the work. How many jars the set contains and how the shades are graded is stated by the manufacturer on the packaging.
Stir each jar thoroughly before use, as the pigment settles at the bottom in storage. Thin with the thinner meant for this range and in the ratio given in the manufacturer's instructions; a thinner from elsewhere may curdle the paint. Start with the darkest tone over the whole area and add the lighter shades gradually toward the middle of the panels, in thin coats and with progressively lighter coverage, so that the transitions are not sharp. Look at the work from a distance as you go; from close up modulation always looks stronger than it finally does on a finished model.
Thinner, brushes, an airbrush and a model are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
