The Asian part of the world took the F-16 in quantity and every customer adapted the machine in its own way. South Korea built a series of its own, Singapore operates upgraded examples with conspicuous avionics on the spine, Taiwan put its older fleet through an extensive rebuild, and Thailand and Indonesia fly machines that made their way to the region from American stocks. Pakistan is among the very oldest users of the type.
The markings of these air forces differ from the American ones in color and in placement, and a number of units paint their own emblems on the fin. For a builder that means the chance to build an aircraft that stands out in a collection at once, without having to reach for an invented finish. 1:48 scale is rewarding for markings like these; the detail stays legible and the finished piece still fits in an ordinary display case.
It is worth recalling why this region matters so much to the type. The F-16 is the most widespread Western fighter of its generation, over four thousand five hundred examples have been built and the production line runs to this day. While some European users are already retiring the machine, Asian air forces go on investing in their examples and count on them for many years ahead. The schemes the sheet offers are therefore not a historical memory but the appearance of aircraft in service right now.
Before you reach for the scissors, compare the reference with the shape of your particular kit. The individual blocks differ in the shape of the spine, the air intake and the height of the fin, and some markings therefore fit only a certain version. Store the remaining motifs in their packaging out of the light; decals yellow in time. If the sheet has been lying at home for a longer while, go over it with a thin layer of clear lacquer spray before use, or the carrier may break up when soaked.
