The Panavia Tornado is a two-seat combat aircraft that came out of a joint European program between the United Kingdom, Germany and Italy. Its distinguishing feature is a variable-sweep wing: on takeoff and landing it spreads to a small angle, and in fast flight at low altitude it folds back against the fuselage. A pair of afterburning turbofans provides the power. The Tornado thus handled tasks that do not commonly fit into one airframe, and it lasted in service in European air forces for whole decades.
The name of the volume lists the three basic branches of the type. The IDS is the strike and reconnaissance version for attacks on ground targets, and the weight of its work lay in flight at low altitude. The ECR is the version for electronic warfare and for the suppression of air defense. The ADV is the fighter variant for the defense of airspace, set apart from the strike machines by a longer fuselage and different equipment. The differences between them are not cosmetic, and for building a model it is essential to know which of them you have in front of you.
The volume will be appreciated by modelers and aviation enthusiasts who want to find their way around the individual versions of the Tornado before reaching for a kit or an accessory set. The series is numbered, this part carries the number seven, and the number at the same time distinguishes the individual volumes from one another.
