A box of this type is a good gift even for someone who has not yet started building models. The sprues carry the parts in finished shades already, the joints are designed to click together, and a whole evening at the table gets by with nippers and a knife. At the same time it is a kit, not a toy: the division of the parts and the seams are routed so that the result holds up even at close view.
With figures it is the areas that are not made from a single piece that call for the most attention. Hair parts are made up of several layers, and the slightest inaccuracy is enough to leave a gap between them. It pays to try them dry before fitting, to seat them together in your hand and only then put them on the head. The same goes for the flowing sections of clothing, where a seam in the wrong place breaks up the shape needlessly.
A figure looks best when it is not standing bolt upright as if at attention. Try shifting the weight onto one leg, bending the other slightly and turning the shoulders against the hips. The base the model stands on deserves the same care as the model itself: a dark matte board absorbs reflections and the colors of the figure come forward.
Dust is the main enemy of finished figures. A soft wide brush once in a while is enough; wet cleaning is more likely to do harm. Colored plastic also does not stand up to direct sunlight over the long term, and on a windowsill the shades fade noticeably within a year. A display case with glass doors is therefore not a luxury but the simplest safeguard for finished work.
