Peter I the Great fundamentally rebuilt the Russian army on the Western European model. He replaced the old musketeer formations with regular infantry with uniform equipment, drill and European linear tactics. Regular regiments and elite guard units were created and became the core of the new army. The infantry was armed with a flintlock musket and bayonet, and the training stressed volley fire in ranks followed by a bayonet charge. This army went through a hard school in the long war with Sweden - after initial defeats it managed to win the decisive Battle of Poltava, and Russia then took its place among the leading military powers of Europe. Russian foot soldiers of this period were characterized by a long coat, a tricorne hat and a bandolier; the colors of the uniforms changed over the years and differed between guard and line regiments.
Wash the figures in lukewarm water with detergent to remove the mold release agent residue - acrylic paint then holds considerably better. Trim the parting seams and flash away carefully with a scalpel and smooth them with a fine file; work with feeling on small parts such as bayonets so that nothing snaps off. Apply a thin coat of primer; with soft plastics, check in advance that the primer holds on the material and does not crack when the part is bent. Paint with acrylics from the large areas to the details: the base tone of the coat, then a darker wash into the folds and the straps, and finally a dry brush on the edges of the lapels, cuffs and equipment. The tricorne hat and the piping are a rewarding place for a contrasting color. Divide the musket into a wooden stock and a metal barrel and pick the faces out with a thin brush. At the end, fix everything with a matte clear coat and add bases with sand and grass.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
