Model rivets with a flat head 1.7 millimeters in size. They replace the simplified rivet relief on models of machinery and vehicles.

A riveted joint is a small thing on a model, and yet the eye looks for it. Injection-molded plastic can only suggest it, and a shallow relief also disappears under the first coat of paint or is lost while the seams are sanded. Separate rivets solve this shortcoming from the ground up: instead of repairing the relief you install new heads that have a real shape and cast a shadow of their own.
This is a rivet with a flat head, that is with a low plate and no pronounced dome. Such a shape matches joints where the head is not to be in the way or where it was leveled during assembly: armor plates, sheet-metal superstructures, frames and brackets. The size is 1.7 millimeters and it is the only size in the package, so you choose both the dimension and the spacing exactly according to the subject.
First level the original relief by sanding, so that the new head seats on a flat surface. Draw the spacing out with a fine pencil or prepare a paper template, because irregularly set rivets are more conspicuous on a finished model than none at all. For a sure seating a shallow recess is drilled at the spot, the rivet is placed in it with tweezers and secured with a minute drop of cyanoacrylate glue applied on the tip of a wire. Wipe the surplus off at once; once dry a flat ridge is left around the head that is hard to remove. Before painting, wash the surface, degrease it and run a primer over it, otherwise the paint will be wiped off the smooth heads during handling.
The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
