Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the British Bedford OXD truck in the GS 30cwt 4x2 version with a wooden cargo body, in 1:35 scale, made by Gecko Models. The package holds plastic parts, a photo-etched fret, a driver figure, an optional tarpaulin over the body, jerrycans and decals. The markings cover the early part of the war including Dunkirk, North Africa and service at home in Britain.
The Bedford OXD was the standard British military truck of the GS (general service) category with a 30 cwt capacity and 4x2 drive. It served British and Allied units practically everywhere — in Europe, in North Africa and in the Far East — and carried troops, materiel, fuel and ammunition. The version with a wooden cargo body had a practical advantage: damaged planks could be replaced in the field quickly and without a workshop. The load was protected by a tarpaulin.
And now the point: an army does not run on tanks but on logistics. Without trucks there is no fuel, no ammunition and no food — and a tank without fuel is just a lump of iron at the roadside. That is exactly why the unassuming Bedford is often more interesting in a diorama than another tank: a supply column, refueling beside a tank, a repair on the verge or a loaded truck in a wrecked village tell a story that a combat vehicle alone cannot carry. And because it is a civilian-looking vehicle in uniform, it goes beautifully with a tank or an armored vehicle in 1:35 that you already have at home.
First finish the chassis, the cab and the interior and only then close up the body. Glue the plastic with thin cement for polystyrene and the photo-etched parts with super glue. Spray a primer before painting and lay the covering shade down with an airbrush. The wooden cargo body is a rewarding area — it pays to paint it separately, suggest the wood grain with oil paints or a drybrush and add wear on the edges of the planks. The tarpaulin wants a matte finish and gentle emphasis on the folds. Finish the chassis and the fenders with washes and pigments (mud and dust effects) — on a supply truck the dirt is part of the story, not a mistake.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
