New engines from a different supplier solved what the crews minded most about the original version. The thrust rose markedly, the behavior in a hard maneuver calmed down and the machine stopped being a danger to itself. At first the version was designated with the suffix Plus, and only at the beginning of the 1990s did it get a letter of its own. The radar set stayed the same as on the older variant, so the main difference lay in the rear of the fuselage and in the way the aircraft flew.
From outside, the version is given away mainly by the shape of the nozzles and the fairing of the engine nacelles. Inside the cockpit the changes are far subtler, that is differently arranged control panels and a few different instruments. In a scale where the whole machine is around twenty-six centimeters long, such differences are a matter of tenths of a millimeter. Nobody can paint them and nobody can cut them out. A printed layer is the only technique that copes with them and that keeps the right colors of the panels at the same time.
Fit the cockpit tub and let it dry completely before you offer the fuselage halves up to each other. Try the fit dry, because every extra layer can stop the joint from closing, and on a model of this size that shows up at once as a gap along the spine.
The set does not replace a kit. You need a model of the aircraft for it, tweezers with a fine tip and patience. It also pays to decide in advance whether the canopy will be open, because with the glazing closed most of the work done stays hidden.
