A satin two-part varnish on a urethane base, 100 ml of varnish, 25 ml of hardener and 60 ml of thinner. The middle degree of sheen between matte and a mirror.
Responsibility details are not available.
The satin degree of sheen tends to be the hardest one to hit on models of cars. A high gloss deceives about the size and turns a model into a toy, while a complete matte plays the shape of the body down. A semi-matte surface holds both in balance: the light slides along the metal but the surrounding room is not reflected in it, so the model looks like a scaled-down real car.
There are three components in it. One hundred milliliters of varnish, twenty-five milliliters of hardener and sixty milliliters of thinner for spraying. That means there is no need to work out how much of what to buy on top, and above all that the individual parts are chemically matched to each other. Mixing components from different lines is the most common cause of a varnish wrinkling or never properly curing.
Urethane chemistry came here from automotive paint shops and it behaves just as it does on a real car: the layer is hard, it polishes well and it will bear fine sanding if dust settles into it. Working with it, though, calls for air extraction and a mask with a filter for organic solvents, because the fumes from the hardener irritate the airways. Anyone looking for a surface with no sheen at all will find a matte counterpart in the same line.
