An anti-silicone degreaser in a volume of 60 ml. It wipes a car body down right before painting and prevents craters in a fresh coat.
Responsibility details are not available.
The worst moment of the whole build comes a second after spraying, when small round craters start to open up in the glossy layer. The cause tends to be an invisible trace of silicone or grease: a fingerprint, a residue of polish, a fine oil from the compressor or dust from the workshop around. The varnish pulls away from such a spot and a pit appears, which sanding only widens.
Sixty milliliters of the degreasing agent is enough for many car bodies, because it is applied only lightly to a cloth and the surface is wiped with it. It dissolves grease as well as silicone residues that soapy water will not remove. It thus replaces improvising with alcohol, gasoline or a window cleaner, which risk attacking the paint underneath or leaving a film of their own.
The order of the steps decides. Degreasing belongs right at the end of the preparation, that is after sanding, after blowing the dust off and just before spraying. If it is done sooner and the model then passes through your hands again, the whole job comes to nothing. It pays to use the agent between individual coats as well, if the model has lain on the bench for a longer time between them.
