The BMW Z8 was a two-seat roadster built in a small series at the turn of the millennium. In its shape it declared itself openly for the sporting BMW 507 from the 1950s: the long hood, the round headlights and the side vent behind the front wheel are among its unmistakable features. Ahead of the front axle it carried a nearly 5-liter V8 engine taken over from the sharp version of the 5 series of the time, while an aluminum frame and body kept the weight low. The year 2003 was the last year of production.
The model captures the car in the Titanium Silver shade, which shows the transitions of light well on the rounded surfaces of the body. The 1:64 scale reduces a roadster roughly four and a half meters long to a model around seven centimeters long, so it fits in the palm of your hand and takes up only a bit of shelf in a display case beside the other cars of the same format.
A light metallic shade comes into its own nicely against the dark background of a display case and, by contrast, merges with a white background. Brush the dust off with a soft brush, as wiping a polished surface dry will scratch it. Stand the car out of the reach of direct sun and take hold of it by the body when carrying it, not by the windshield pillars.
The model will please collectors of modern classics and those who put together a line of cars of one brand. In the small format it also comes into its own in a road scene, where an open roadster brings an otherwise static group of cars to life.
