Omask 1:72 Reggiane Re.2002 Ariete - wheel bay plugs (for the Italeri kit) are shaped masks in flexible EVA foam that seal the deep bay by themselves while you spray. It is not a kit: you have to own the Italeri Re.2002 model.
Responsibility details are not available.
A masking set from Omask, shaped to the wheel bays of the Reggiane Re.2002 Ariete model in 1:72 scale from Italeri. The plugs are made of flexible EVA foam. It is NOT a kit: the Italeri Re.2002 model itself is not included in the package and you have to own it.
In 1:72 Omask makes three different Italian aircraft for Italeri kits, the Re.2002 Ariete, the Re.2000 and the Macchi MC.202, and their plugs are not interchangeable, because each one is shaped to the bay of one particular kit. This one is for the Re.2002 Ariete. Check which machine you are building: the Re.2000 was a pure fighter from the late 1930s, whereas the Re.2002 is a later, larger and heavier fighter-bomber developed from the Re.2001 airframe. Both have a radial engine, but they are two different aircraft with a differently laid out landing gear and different bays.
The wheel bay is a deep cavity that you paint first, and before spraying the outside you have to mask it, otherwise you ruin the finished interior. Masking it with tape and cotton is a nuisance and it leaks anyway. The foam plug is pushed into the bay, compressed and seals the opening by itself, so it holds without glue and does not have to fit to hundredths of a millimeter the way a hard part does. Once the paint has dried it comes out and can be used again. In 1:72 the bays are smaller, deeper and harder to reach than in the large scales, so this is where a shaped plug pays off most.
The Reggiane Re.2002 Ariete (meaning ram) was an Italian fighter-bomber and attack aircraft used in the Second World War. It came out of the Reggiane line, but while its predecessor the Re.2001 had a V engine, the Re.2002 was given an air-cooled Piaggio radial engine again, among other reasons because V engines were in short supply. That gives it a broad rounded nose, and it carries armament for attacks on ground and naval targets.
Paint the bay first and let it cure. Slip the plug in with tweezers, press it down to the outline of the bay and only then spray the outer color. The foam also keeps sanding dust out of the finished interior. Take it out only once the paint has dried.
The package contains only the masking plugs. The model, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
