A decal sheet for models of the Messerschmitt Bf 109 E-1 fighter aircraft in 1:32 scale. It carries the markings of one machine, which the name lists as White 9. This is not a kit but an accessory for one.

The real subject

The Bf 109 E, nicknamed Emil, is the version with which the German fighter force entered the fighting at the beginning of the Second World War. Against the older lines it was given the liquid-cooled inverted V12 Daimler-Benz DB 601 with direct fuel injection, so the engine did not cut out when pushed into negative g. The E-1 version still carried armament made up of machine guns; cannon in the wing appeared only with the later subversions. The recognition features of the Emil are the angular nose, the radiators under the wing and the stepped cockpit canopy.

How the sheet is applied

• Cut the element out, dip it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and let it rest until it starts to release from the paper.
• The base has to be smooth and glossy, otherwise a silvery haze will appear under the film.
• Slide the decal into place with a soft brush and soak the surplus water up with a cloth.
• Over fabric surfaces and pressings a softener will help the film draw itself onto the surface.
• Finally varnish the area, so that the edges of the carrier film disappear.

Who the sheet is for

For builders of large scales who want a model in a particular rendition and do not want to use the markings from the box. The 1:32 scale is rewarding for decals: the elements are larger, they are easier to handle and they are clearly legible on a finished model. The maker states the extent of the markings and their placement in the enclosed instructions.
