Injection-molded plastic kit of the American nuclear attack submarine USS Los Angeles (SSN-688) in the small 1:700 scale from Hobby Boss. It is a simple full-hull model with a low parts count, rounded out by a display base with a printed nameplate and by decals. The build is quick and the model also suits an American fleet in the same scale. Check the exact contents of the box against the manufacturer's part number for this item.
USS Los Angeles was the lead boat of the large class of nuclear attack submarines of the US Navy. She was launched in 1974 and commissioned in 1976. The Los Angeles class became the backbone of the US Navy submarine force during the Cold War and carried out tasks from anti-submarine warfare through the protection of task forces to reconnaissance. These were fast, quiet submarines with torpedo armament and, on the later boats, missiles launched from the hull.
Glue the hull with thin cement for plastic and sand the seam between the two halves thoroughly so that no line remains visible on the smooth side. Choose a full-hull build on the supplied stand, or cut the model down to the waterline. Use a single dark gray to black color typical of modern submarines. Add the conning tower, the periscopes and the small deck details at the end and even out the surface with a matte clear coat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
