A photo-etched set from the Czech company Eduard intended for detailing a model of the Douglas A-1J in 1:72 scale. It is the full set, that is, the more extensive of the two variants that Eduard usually issues for one type. Besides the cockpit the full set covers other areas of the model as well and tends to be a combination of color, pre-painted parts and parts in bare stainless steel intended for painting. The smaller Zoom variant, by contrast, contains only a pre-painted subset focused on the cockpit. If you want to get the most out of a model, choose the full set. It is not a kit of the aircraft.
The Douglas A-1J Skyraider is a late production version of a single-engine piston attack aircraft that came about at the end of the Second World War but became famous only two decades later. A massive radial powerplant and the ability to carry a large load of weapons made it a machine with exceptional endurance over the battlefield, a quality the jets of the time could not match. Skyraiders also proved themselves escorting search and rescue operations, where long time over the target counted most.
Cut the parts off with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface and never break them out. Make the bends in a photo-etch bending tool or between two blades, so that the edge is sharp. They are bonded with super glue in a minimal amount, and for the pre-painted parts a thin glue for metal applied with a pin also suits. Do not paint over the color parts, just protect them from fingerprints. Degrease the stainless steel surfaces before painting and spray them with a primer, otherwise the paint will not hold. In 1:72 scale planning is the key: try the fit dry and think through the order, because once the fuselage is closed you will no longer reach some of the parts.
This is an accessory set, not a kit. The base model of the aircraft, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
