This Eduard set in 1:72 scale holds precisely cut self-adhesive painting masks for a plastic model of the Japanese carrier-based Mitsubishi A6M3 Zero fighter. It is not a kit or a model of an aircraft in its own right but an aid for painting: the masks follow the framing of the cockpit canopy and other glazing exactly, so you spray sharp and straight frame lines with no lengthy laying down of adhesive tape. Circular masks for the wheel hubs are usually included.
The Mitsubishi A6M Zero (Reisen) is a Japanese carrier-based fighter, a symbol of the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service in the early Pacific war, prized for its great range and exceptional agility. The A6M3 version received a more powerful Sakae engine with a two-speed supercharger, and some of the aircraft had clipped wingtips. The Zero long set the tone of air combat over the Pacific.
Carefully lift the masks off the backing film with tweezers or the tip of a scalpel and press them onto the glazing so that they follow the shape of the frames. The clear areas stay covered and only the frame is left exposed. Spray the paint, ideally with an airbrush in thin coats, and lift the masks off once it is dry. Wipe adhesive residue off with a gently moistened cloth.
The package holds only the cut masks. The model, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
