1:72 B-17G

The real subject

The B-17G Flying Fortress is the last and most numerously built version of the American four-engine bomber of the Second World War. The machine has glazing along the whole fuselage: the glazed nose with the bombardier's position, the pilot cockpit, the side windows, the gun positions and the turrets. For a model that means a lot of small surfaces with a dense network of frames, and in 1:72 scale the frames are so narrow that they can hardly be drawn straight with a brush.

What the masks are for

The masks turn the problem around. They cover the clear panels and leave only the frames exposed, which you then spray in the same color as the rest of the model. The transition between the frame and the glass thus comes out crisp and straight, and the frames have the same shade and surface texture as the areas around them. On this type the saving in work is exceptional precisely because the model has so many glazed areas.

How to use the masks

The masks are applied before spraying, onto clean, dry and degreased glazing. Lift the part off the backing with tweezers, seat it according to the frame and press the edges down firmly, so that paint does not creep under them. Spray thin layers, as one heavy layer likes to creep under the edge of the mask. Take the mask off shortly after the paint has dried, not after a longer time, when the adhesive holds more firmly and the paint may be pulled away. The masks are cut to the shape of a particular kit, so before sticking them on, lay them against the part and check that the outline matches.

Who it is for

The set is for everyone who is building the B-17G in 1:72 scale and wants clean glazing and straight frames. The kit, paints and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
