An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet BA-3 heavy armored car in 1:72 scale from UM (UniModels). It is a short-run kit with fine parts; the model captures the early three-axle armored car with a rotating turret and a 45 mm gun, the predecessor of the later BA-6 type. The package contains decals; check the particular number of parts and schemes against the manufacturer's part number for this item.
The BA-3 was a Soviet heavy armored car from the first half of the 1930s. On a truck chassis it carried a rotating turret with a 45 mm gun and machine guns, taken over from a light tank. A characteristic feature was the door in the rear of the hull, which disappeared on the later BA-6. The vehicle formed the basis of a whole line of Soviet heavy armored cars and was deployed in the opening conflicts of the prewar and wartime period.
Short-run kits call for care: clean any flash off the parts and glue them with thin cement for plastic, the finest pieces with cyanoacrylate. Paint the chassis, the turret and the hull before the final assembly. After the base protective green, apply a gloss coat under the decals and complete the weathering with washes into the recesses and pigments for dust and mud effects on the wheels and the chassis.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
