A decal sheet in 1:72 scale from the British brand Xtradecal, intended for models of the BAC Jet Provost jet trainer in the T.Mk.5 version in British service. The package holds printed decals on a carrier film only: neither plastic parts nor a kit are part of it. Which particular machines the sheet carries is stated on the box.
The Jet Provost was the basic jet trainer of the Royal Air Force, which followed on from the piston-engined Provost. The instructor and the pupil sat side by side, which made teaching easier in the early stages of training. The T.Mk.5 version brought a pressurized cockpit with a new canopy, thanks to which the aircraft could also train at higher levels. Machines of this type served in basic training for two decades and wore conspicuous, highly visible training schemes.
Training machines tend to have richly colored areas, and it is precisely on these that the quality of a decal shows. A dark or strongly colored base shows through light motifs, so it is advisable to back large light decals with a thin layer of white or to apply the decal to an area that has stayed light. First clear-coat the model with gloss varnish, let the decals dry thoroughly and only then put on the unifying matte or semi-gloss varnish. With angular motifs on the border of two colors, it helps to trim the decal exactly to shape before laying it on.
The package contains decals only. The kit, paints and varnishes are not part of it.
