A masking set in 1:72 scale for the two-seat training versions of the British supersonic Lightning fighter, that is the T.4 and T.5 variants. It holds pre-cut shapes for the glazing, which are stuck on before painting and taken off once it is finished. The set is an accessory for building; the model itself is not part of the package.
The Lightning was among the most unusual fighters of its time: two jet engines were housed one above the other in the fuselage and the aircraft drew air in through a circular opening in the nose with a movable cone. The two-seat T.4 and T.5 versions differ from the single-seaters above all in the widened forward fuselage, because the instructor and the pupil sit side by side. This is precisely what is essential for masking. The canopy is wide, fairly low and has a different division of frames from the combat versions, so masks intended for the single-seat Lightning will not fit the two-seater. The T.4 derived from the F.2 version, the T.5 from the F.3.
Wash and degrease the glazing, otherwise a mask will not hold. Press a mask down once it is stuck on and smooth the edge, so paint does not run under it. The procedure is usually the frame in the color of the interior, then the primer, then the top shade. On the Lightning a bright metal or light gray surface is often sprayed, on which any overspray shows at once, so it pays to give the edges more time. Take a mask off while the paint is freshly dry.
This is an accessory for building. The kit of the aircraft, paints and glue are not included in the package. Please check the match with your kit beforehand.
