Three-dimensionally printed decals of the pilot's seat belts for the Messerschmitt Bf 109 F and G in 1:72 scale from Art Scale replace flat paper straps with real relief.
Responsibility details are not available.
The straps of the pilot's harness, printed directly on a carrier film. Against an ordinary decal they have a noticeable thickness and the texture of fabric; against a photo-etched part, the bending and painting of individual pieces falls away. In the small 1:72 scale this is the simplest way to get detail into a cockpit that a kit otherwise solves with engraving alone.
The Friedrich, that is the Bf 109 F, brought a rounded wing, a cleaner cowling and armament concentrated on the centerline in 1941; the Gustav that followed became the most numerously built version of the whole family. Pilots of both versions sat in a narrow cockpit on a seat with a harness whose shoulder and lap straps converged into a single rotating buckle. That is exactly the part most visible in an open cockpit.
Spray the seat first and let it harden. Soak the part, slide it off the backing and settle it with a soft brush; longer straps can be bent over the edge of the seat or left hanging freely, which looks livelier than a straight pull. Press the belt into the detail with a soft cotton bud. Whether a decal softener can be used on it should be checked in the manufacturer's instructions; makers tend to be cautious about it with printed parts. Once dry, go over it with a flat varnish.
The set holds the belts only; neither the seat nor the model is supplied.
