A masking set for the landing gear bays of the Bf 109 G and K in 1:72 scale covers the openings in the lower surface of the wing, so you paint the inside of a bay and the surrounding skin separately. Intended for the Hasegawa kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set of masks deals with one particular step in building a seventy-second scale Messerschmitt of the late series: it separates the inside of the landing gear bays from the surrounding skin of the wing. It saves you the lengthy cutting of masking tape into curves and the edge of a bay comes out sharp. Plastic parts are not in the delivery; this is an aid for painting a part-built model. The target kit is Hasegawa.
The G series, nicknamed the Gustav among pilots, was the most numerously built form of the whole type. An inverted V12 Daimler-Benz DB 605 powered it, and from the G-6 sub-version conspicuous bulges appeared on the cowling above the breeches of the synchronized machine guns. Later machines were given a taller vertical tail, often of wooden construction. The K series, designated the Kurfürst, was to unify the fragmented production at the close of the war: it brought an aerodynamically cleaned-up nose, a revised cockpit canopy and a powerplant with the option of a short-term boost in output. Both series kept the narrow-track landing gear attached to the fuselage, on account of which the type had a reputation as a machine demanding to taxi and land.
Paint the inside of the bays and their doors before you take on the upper camouflage. With a mask laid over an opening you then spray the lower surfaces with no worry that the shade from inside will carry over to the outside. The color of the inner spaces differed between machines from various factories and periods, so go by photographs of the particular aircraft you are building. Take the covering off while the spraying has freshly dried.
