A figure set dated to the year 1900, capturing a naval brigade, that is ratings deployed away from the deck. In a scene it differs from the infantry sets in that the figures usually work as a crew and as part of a grouping around one point, not as a laid-out line.
Naval ratings in field deployment: a tunic, a head covering, a belt with equipment, a hand firearm. For building a scene the strongest use is precisely the group one: several figures concentrated around one task will create a story that figures set out singly cannot give.
If the figures are molded from soft plastic, ordinary modeling cement for polystyrene will not hold on them; it has nothing to soften. Reach for cyanoacrylate, best of all a gel one, which leaves time to position a part. Roughen the surface with fine abrasive paper before gluing and degrease it. Deformed parts, for example bent barrels or leaning figures, are straightened by dipping them in hot water for a few seconds and fixing them in the wanted position in cold water; plastic can be worked with as long as it is warm. Trim nubs and parting seams with a sharp scalpel by drawing it along, not by cutting from above; a soft material sands badly and a smeared surface comes about easily.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
