This kit from the Ukrainian maker UM represents the Finnish BT-42 assault gun in 1:72 scale. It is an injection-molded plastic model with photo-etched parts added; it is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The BT-42 was a Finnish assault howitzer built on the chassis of a captured Soviet BT-7 fast tank. Into a newly designed turret the Finns fitted an older 114 mm howitzer of British origin, which they had obtained before the war. The result was an improvised fire support vehicle, fielded above all on the Karelian Isthmus. The combination of a light, fast chassis with a fairly massive turret is one of those distinctive subjects that reward a collector.
Assemble and clean up the running gear before you close the hull. Glue the plastic parts with liquid modeling cement and the fine photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. A multi-color camouflage finish is typical of Finnish vehicles and will come out once the primer is sprayed on and a dark wash worked in; add dust and mud pigments to the running gear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
