A mask for spraying the cockpit framing of the British Buccaneer S.2B attack aircraft in 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Buccaneer is a British two-seat attack aircraft built for attack from low altitude over the sea. The structure was exceptionally robust accordingly, because the machine spent its service at a low level, where the air is turbulent and the loads on the airframe high. The S.2B version served with the Royal Air Force. The cockpit glazing on this type is prominent and the frames are one of the features by which carefully executed work is recognized.
A set of masks in 1:72 scale defines the glazing frames, so they are sprayed over and a sharp edge with no bleed is left behind. The lengthy applying of strips of tape and their trimming directly on the part falls away with it, which in a small scale almost always ends in an uneven line or scratched clear plastic.
Wash and degrease the glazing first so that the mask holds. Apply it before spraying, not after, and press the edges down with a toothpick. Spray the frames in the color of the cockpit interior first and only then in the outer shade, so that the inner side of a frame does not show through. Work in thin coats and take the mask off shortly after the paint has dried; the longer you wait, the more the adhesive sticks to the painted surface. Wipe adhesive residue away with a cotton swab moistened in water.
For modelers who build British equipment in 1:72 scale and want the cockpit glazing clean. The kit, paints and thinner are not part of the package, unless stated otherwise.
