A photo-etched accessory from the Czech maker Eduard aimed at the exterior of a C-130J Hercules model in 1:72 scale. Exterior photo-etched sets usually deal with elements that cannot be made thin enough or fine enough in injection-molded plastic: grilles, covers, flat strips, platforms and small protrusions on the surface of the airframe. The result shows mainly on the large smooth areas, of which the Hercules has plenty.
The Lockheed Martin C-130J Super Hercules is a four-engine turboprop transport aircraft with a high-mounted wing and a rear cargo ramp. The landing gear retracts into side fairings on the fuselage and the engines drive six-blade propellers. The surface of the airframe is broken up by panel joints, service covers and protrusions, so even small exterior details show on a model.
Separate the parts with a scalpel on a hard surface and make the bends over a metal ruler. On the exterior it is best to glue them only after the airframe has been basically assembled, so that the part is not handled while the seams are being sanded. Bond with a tiny drop of super glue, let any excess dry and trim it carefully. Degrease the metal before painting and spray it with a primer, otherwise the edge of the etch will peel when you mask.
