This item is a set of pre-cut self-adhesive masks intended for a model of the Australian CAC Wirraway aircraft in 1:72 scale. The masks are stuck onto the glazing and other places that are to stay free of paint, so that the cockpit framing can be sprayed straight away and with no lengthy cutting of tape. It is not a kit or a set of parts, but an aid for painting a model you already own.
The CAC Wirraway was an Australian multi-purpose and training aircraft built by the Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation. It was derived from the American school of machines of the North American family, and in Australian service during the Second World War it filled the role of a trainer, a liaison aircraft and an improvised combat machine. The glazing of its tandem cockpit is busy, so masking it by hand takes a long time and this is exactly where pre-cut stencils pay off.
First degrease the glazing and let it dry thoroughly; a mask will not hold on a greasy surface. Take the stencils off the sheet with tweezers or the tip of a scalpel and press them down above all around the perimeter. On curved surfaces it helps to warm the mask with hot air so that it gives to the shape. With the first pass, apply only a thin coat of paint in the interior shade or of primer: it seals the edge of the mask, so that any creep will not show in the final color. Spray the paint in thin coats and take the mask off shortly after it has dried, not days later, or the adhesive separates less easily.
The set contains masking material only. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
