A set of waterslide decals in 1:72 scale intended for models of the carrier observation and reconnaissance biplane Curtiss SOC Seagull. The designation part 2 means that it is a follow-on sheet; it can be used on its own, without the first part. The package holds only the decal sheet; a model is not included in the delivery.
The Curtiss SOC Seagull was an American single-engine biplane with a crew of two, developed in the 1930s for service on surface ships. It was launched from the catapult of cruisers and battleships, and once its task was done it alighted on the water and a crane lifted it back on board. The design allowed for a change of undercarriage: a central float with stabilizing floats for operation from water, or a conventional wheeled undercarriage for land bases. The main role of the machine was observation, spotting for naval gunfire and searching for crews at sea.
The base under a decal has to be smooth and glossy. On a matte finish, microscopic bubbles stay under the carrier film and show up once dry as a lightened frame around the artwork. Trim the motif as close as you can, dip it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and let it rest until the film releases from the paper by itself. Slide it with a brush, draw off the excess water and reach for a softener on broken surfaces. Once dry, go over everything with varnish in the degree of gloss you want, so that the edges of the film disappear.
The package holds only the decals. The model, paints and varnishes are not included in the delivery.
