A photo-etched metal accessory of the Czech brand Brengun in 1:72 scale. It is not a kit or a part of the airframe, but a separate boarding ladder of the kind by which the pilot gets into the cockpit of Dassault Mirage aircraft. On a stand, on a display base and in a diorama alike it adds to the model a feature that gives the scene scale and makes it more believable. How many parts the sheet contains and which versions of the Mirage it is intended for are given in the instructions enclosed with the set.
Photo-etching makes it possible to produce thin profiles and lattice structures in thicknesses that injected plastic never reaches. The ladder therefore comes across as delicate and accurate, unlike massive plastic imitations. At the same time it is a part that is not built into the model, so it can be assembled and painted separately and only placed next to the model, which is rewarding for photographing the finished model as well.
Separate the parts from the sheet with a sharp scalpel on a hard mat, for example on glass or on smooth steel, never by twisting, because the metal bends irreversibly. Make the bends in a photo-etch bending tool, or between two razor blades or along a metal ruler, and carry them out in one smooth movement. Glue the joints with thin cyanoacrylate applied with the tip of a pin; the stronger variant is soldering with a soft solder. Degrease the metal before painting and spray on a primer intended for metal surfaces, otherwise the paint peels. A finished ladder is brought to life well by a dark wash, which emphasizes the lattice structure, and by fine scuffs on the edges applied by dry brushing.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
