Omask 1:72 – masking set for the Douglas DC-6

This is a masking set, not an aircraft model. The package contains pre-cut masks made for covering the glazing of a model of the four-engine Douglas DC-6 airliner in 1:72 scale. The set does away with laboriously cutting tape to the shape of the cockpit frames and the windows, so you get to spraying sooner and with a markedly cleaner result.

What the set is for

The masks are applied to the clear parts before painting. They cover the area of the glazing and leave only the frames exposed, which you then spray together with the rest of the fuselage. The result is a sharp edge between the frame and the glass, which is practically unattainable with a brush. On an airliner with a long row of round windows such a set is particularly useful, because masking many small openings by hand is slow and easily ends up uneven.

Usage tips

First wash the clear parts in lukewarm water with detergent and let them dry, so that the masks hold well. Lift the individual pieces of the mask with tweezers and press them down with a toothpick or a wooden stick, above all around the edge, so that paint does not creep under. Spray in thin coats; the first of them can be in the interior color or in the shade of the primer, which seals the edge. Remove the mask as soon as possible after the paint has dried, ideally before varnishing: under varnish it comes off less easily and there is a risk of tearing the finish. Before buying, check that the set matches your particular DC-6 kit in 1:72 scale; the shape of the glazing differs between the molds of different makers.
