The collector's figures 1:72 Drivers / civilian pilots (2x3 figures) from Black Dog represent civilian drivers and pilots for small dioramas.
Responsibility details are not available.
This item offers small figures of drivers and pilots in civilian clothes, intended for 1:72 scale. They are meant for scenes where a person belongs with the hardware: by a racing car, by a light aircraft, at an airfield or in a garage. Figures in civilian clothes are harder to find than uniformed ones, so this subject is often missing from the range.
Without a human figure the viewer judges the size of the hardware only from the surrounding objects, which need not be unambiguous. But as soon as a person stands by a vehicle or an aircraft, the scale is clear at once and the scene gains a story: somebody has just arrived, somebody is about to take off. With civilian subjects there is also no worrying about period markings, so the figure can be used over a much wider range of periods than one in uniform.
In this scale it pays to paint from a darker base toward the lighter layers and only to suggest the details. You will manage the face with three tones: the base, a dark shadow into the eye sockets and a lighter accent on the forehead and the nose. Do not paint the eyes as dots; in 1:72 scale a dark shadow is enough. Civilian clothing will take bright colors, but mute them so that the figure does not overpower the hardware it belongs with. Be especially careful with pure white and saturated red, as both draw attention immediately in a small scale.
