1:72 Early WWII American Soldiers

Strelets-R 1:72 Early WWII American Soldiers

A figure set in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer Strelets-R aimed at American soldiers in the early phase of the Second World War. It is an addition for dioramas and display case scenes; it is not a kit of a vehicle nor of an aircraft.

The real subject

The early period differs from the later years in details that are well apparent in a small scale: a different cut of field clothing, a different helmet and differently arranged load-bearing equipment. That is precisely why early and late American infantry cannot be exchanged at will in a diorama without a more experienced viewer noticing it. For a modeler that is on the contrary an advantage, as the set clearly sets the period placement of a scene.

Building and painting tips

The base is formed by a muted olive and khaki palette, in which it is easy to lose the modeling. Proceed from a darker undercoat, therefore, apply the middle tone over the whole area and use a lighter variant of the same shade only on the raised places. Set the load-bearing straps and equipment apart with a somewhat lighter sand tone, otherwise they will merge with the uniform. The leather of the boots and the metal buckles come out with a small contrast, not with a bright color. Before painting, deburr the parting lines and apply primer, as without it paint does not hold on soft plastic. Glue the figures with cyanoacrylate. The set complements models of hardware in 1:72 well, only take care that the equipment of the characters matches the same period as the vehicles in the scene.
