The Grumman F-14 Tomcat was an American carrier-based fighter with a crew of two and a variable-sweep wing that folded back in flight according to speed. It served with the US Navy as an air superiority machine and for the defense of a naval task force, and later for reconnaissance and attacks on ground targets as well. The F-14A version was the first production variant and made up the overwhelming majority of the aircraft built. The cockpit has two separate stations one behind the other, the front one for the pilot and the rear one for the radar intercept officer, so on a model the interior is clearly visible from both sides.
These are color interior elements produced by printing and carried on a backing paper. They cover the instrument panels, the side consoles and other surfaces of the cockpit, where they replace the hand-painting of small instruments and lettering. The elements have three-dimensional relief, so once applied they do not look like a flat printed surface.
The elements are applied like a decal, but a decal softener does not belong with them. Leave a cut-out part in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and then slide it off the backing paper into place, where you press it down with a soft wooden stick from the center outward. The element has no adhesive layer of its own, so paint the surface beforehand, let it dry and coat it with a gloss varnish such as Future, Klear or Tamiya X-22. It sits best on a smooth surface, so remove any raised instruments from the part that would lift the element; on a broken surface a drop of super glue helps. The position of the individual elements is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
What is supplied are the interior elements. The aircraft kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
