A photo-etched set of supplementary parts for a model of the F-14A Tomcat carrier-borne fighter in 1:72 scale. It adds to a model thin metal features that plastic cannot bear in this scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Grumman F-14A Tomcat was an American two-seat carrier-borne fighter with a variable-sweep wing. In flight the machine changed the setting angle of the wing itself according to speed, so it got off a short deck and yet handled fast flight. Two vertical tail surfaces set far apart and the flat middle section of the fuselage between the engine nacelles are conspicuous on it.
The set brings supplementary parts etched from thin metal sheet. Photo-etch suits everywhere injection-molded plastic would have to be much thicker than the real part for the sake of production: instrument panels, seat belts, grilles, doors, landing gear plates and small flat stiffeners. In a small scale the difference in thickness shows more than anything else. Check the particular contents of the fret and the kit the set is cut for in the manufacturer's documentation.
Cut the parts off the fret with a sharp blade on a hard surface and sand the remaining stub down with a fine file. Make the bends along the etched groove on the back of the part, over a sharp edge or in a bending tool, and make them in a single pull; repeated bending tires the sheet and the part will crack. Meter out the glue with the tip of a wire, because cyanoacrylate glue runs quickly over smooth sheet. Before painting, degrease the sheet and go over it with a base coat.
The model, glue and paints are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
