1:72 F-14A Tomcat EXPERT kabuki masks

Masking set 1:72 Grumman F-14A Tomcat, EXPERT level (New Ware)

Pre-cut masks in 1:72 scale made of soft kabuki type masking film. The set is placed in the highest level the brand uses for its masks. The level says nothing about how difficult the work is; it describes the range, that is how many features of the model the set covers beyond the glazing itself.

A small scale and a lot of tiny features

The Tomcat is a two-seat machine with a large canopy, and in 1:72 scale a number of the masked areas come out really small. That is exactly where an extended set pays off most. Cutting tape by hand into millimeter shapes is slow and the result tends to be uneven, whereas cut film holds the shape exactly. Kabuki film also beds down well on a curved canopy, so there is no need to piece it together from several bits of tape.

Usage tips

• Lift the small masks off the sheet with sharp tweezers, not with your fingers. A fingerprint on the film worsens the adhesion.
• While you work, put the sheet on a light background, because small pieces are easily lost on a dark table.
• The low-contrast gray camouflage of modern fighters forgives little. Before you remove the mask, check the edge with a magnifier.
• Keep the rest of the sheet in its original packaging out of direct light, so that the adhesive keeps its properties for the next build.

Who the set is for

• Builders of modern jet aircraft in a small scale.
• Modelers who want to mask features beyond the cockpit as well.
• Those who prefer kabuki type film to ordinary masking tape.

This is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
