This item is not a kit but an accessory set of photo-etched metal parts focused, according to its name, on the exterior of a model of the F-14B Tomcat carrier aircraft in 1:72 scale. Exterior sets deal with surface features of the airframe, that is typically thin covers, grilles, mating faces and small fittings, on which plastic is necessarily thicker than it should be in scale. The advantage is that most of the parts are fitted at a later stage of the build, so the set can be bought even for a model already under way. The manufacturer is Eduard, a Czech firm from Obrnice near Most. It is a full photo-etched set. Check the particular contents of the package on the box of the set.
The F-14 was a two-seat carrier aircraft with a variable-geometry wing, twin fins and a wide flat fuselage between the engine nacelles. The F-14B version differed from the original variant in its F110 series engines and in the related changes to the rear end. The exterior of the aircraft is broken up, with a large number of covers and transitions, so photo-etched accessories come into their own well on it.
Separate the parts with a scalpel on a hard surface and sand the burrs away. Make the bends in a bending tool or over a straight edge. Glue with super glue in small drops; any excess is hard to remove on an outer surface and leaves a flat stain. Degrease the metal before painting and spray it with primer. Seat the exterior parts before the final coat, so that the paint blends the transition between metal and plastic. Then bring the panel lines out with a thin wash only once the clear coat has dried.
