About product

The real subject

The F-15J is the Japanese version of the American F-15 Eagle heavy fighter. Mitsubishi built it under license for the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, and the machines still form the backbone of the defense of Japanese airspace. The MSIP designation refers to the program of gradual modernization the aircraft went through; it concerned mainly the avionics and the cockpit equipment, so the upgraded machines differ from the original ones in small details that a modeler notices in the pilot's compartment.

What the set offers

It is a set of photo-etched parts in 1:72 scale tied to the F-15J in the MSIP version. Photo-etch is a thin metal sheet from which the individual items are separated and bent to shape. Its advantage is a thickness close to reality: parts that would come out disproportionately heavy in injection-molded plastic look natural here. Which kit the set is cut for and exactly what the sheet contains is stated by the manufacturer in the instructions.

  • photo-etched metal parts in 1:72 scale
  • a subject tied to the F-15J in the MSIP version
  • a thickness of the items close to reality
  • the items are held on the carrier sheet by thin tabs
  • the contents of the sheet and the assembly procedure are given in the manufacturer's instructions

Building and painting tips

Separate the items with a sharp blade on a hard surface, not by twisting, otherwise the part buckles. Make the bends along the marked grooves, ideally in a photo-etch bender or between the jaws of flat tweezers. Cement for polystyrene does not hold on metal: use a minute amount of cyanoacrylate glue, and a two-part adhesive on larger areas. Degrease the metal before painting and cover it with a primer, otherwise the coat peels off during handling.

Who it is for

It will be appreciated by a modeler who is building the F-15J in 1:72 scale and wants fine detail in a matching thickness. Working with photo-etch calls for tweezers, a sharp blade and calm; try the first bend on an offcut of the sheet. Paints, glue and tools are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The Japanese licensed version of the F-15 Eagle that went through the program of gradual modernization designated MSIP.

With a minute amount of cyanoacrylate glue, and with a two-part adhesive on larger areas. Cement for polystyrene does not hold on metal.

The name does not state the kit. Before building, compare the shapes of the parts with your own kit and follow the manufacturer's instructions.

A sharp blade and flat tweezers will do; a bender makes the work easier, but it is not essential.
