Photo-etched metal parts for a model of the F-4E Phantom II in 1:72 scale. The thin metal takes the detail where a plastic part in a small scale cannot go.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F-4E Phantom II is an American two-seat fighter and ground-attack aircraft with a striking silhouette: the outer wing panels are angled upward while the horizontal tail surfaces are angled down. The E version differs from the older Phantoms in a lengthened nose, into which it received a built-in six-barrel cannon, because combat experience had shown that guided missiles alone were not enough. The cockpit has two seats one behind the other under divided canopies.
Photo-etch is a thin metal fret with the relief etched into it. The parts are separated from it, bent to shape and glued to the model. In 1:72 scale the difference against plastic shows most: what should be as thin as sheet metal on the real aircraft necessarily comes out thicker in plastic, whereas metal holds its shape even at a thickness close to the real thing. The scope of the set and the kit it is cut for are given by the manufacturer in the instructions.
Work over a tray or a light-colored surface, as the parts in this scale are tiny and are searched for in vain once they land on a carpet. Separate them with a sharp blade on a hard surface, not by breaking them out between your fingers; level the remains of the tab with fine sandpaper. Make the bends along the scored line over the edge of a ruler or in a bending tool, holding the part with tweezers as you go. They are bonded with super glue applied in the smallest amount, as cement for polystyrene will not join metal. Before painting, wash the metal, degrease it and spray a primer, otherwise the finish peels off the smooth surface.
The model kit, paints, glue and tools are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
