F-4J Phantom II Late, 3D interior decal (1:72, Quinta Studio)

A relief 3D printed and pre-colored interior decal, not an aircraft kit. Even in the small 1:72 scale it adds colored instrument panels, side consoles and other details to both cockpits of the two-seat Phantom without your having to paint them. It is shaped for the F-4J Phantom II kit in the late form from Fine Molds.

The real subject

The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II was a two-seat jet fighter and strike aircraft. The F-4J version served with the US Navy and the Marine Corps; the late machines differed in small changes to the avionics and the airframe.

How a 3D decal is used

• Cut the small parts out, immerse them in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and slide them off the backing paper into place in the cockpit, which you coat with gloss varnish beforehand, as that is the only surface the parts hold on.
• The colored relief print replaces plastic or photo-etched parts, so painting is not needed.
• Because of the small scale, work with tweezers, and on busy surfaces a drop of cyanoacrylate glue helps. Do not use a decal softener: it attacks the printed resin and ruins the part.
