1:72 F-89 D/J/H Scorpion - landing gear bay masking set for separating the shade of the inner bays from the coat on the airframe. For the D, J and H versions. Intended for the Academy and Minicraft kits.
Responsibility details are not available.
A masking sheet for spraying the landing gear bays of the two-seat Northrop F-89 Scorpion interceptor in the D, J and H versions. It lets the modeler separate the shade of the inner bays from the color of the outer skin without having to cut the boundary freehand. The set is intended for the Academy and Minicraft kits.
It was the first American jet designed from the start as an all-weather interceptor. The crew consisted of a pilot and a radar operator seated in tandem, and the airframe had a straight wing and a pair of afterburning engines along the sides of the fuselage. At the wingtips it carried bulky pods, into which the D version stowed unguided rockets. The H version worked with Falcon guided missiles, and the J version went down in history as the carrier of the Genie air-to-air rocket.
It is worth painting the bays before the fuselage halves and the wing are joined, because access inside is incomparably easier then. Lay a primer over the inner surfaces first so that the light shade covers evenly. Place the individual pieces with tweezers and press the edges down with a toothpick so that paint cannot flow underneath.
