Landing gear bay masks for a model of the British Fairey Fulmar carrier aircraft in 1:72 scale, cut for the Special Hobby kits.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Fairey Fulmar was a two-seat carrier fighter of British naval aviation from the beginning of the Second World War. The second man in the rear cockpit worked the radio and navigated, which over an empty sea was valued more than pure performance; the Fulmar was therefore larger and heavier than the land-based fighters of its day. The wings folded back for storage on deck. Machines of this class worked above all on protecting convoys in the Mediterranean.
The masks cover the openings of the landing gear bays so that no paint drift gets into them while the fuselage and the wing are sprayed. The inside of a bay stays in the shade you gave it and the edge of an opening stays sharp. The cut matches the shapes of the bays on the Fulmar kits from Special Hobby in 1:72 scale.
Spray the inside of the bays and let it dry before you apply the masks. Degrease the surface around an opening, seat the mask and press the edges down with a blunt toothpick, so that paint does not run under them. Spray the outer surfaces thinly and in several passes. After spraying, take the mask off while the finish has not hardened completely, pulling it back over itself at a sharp angle. If a mask overhangs somewhere, even it out with a sharp blade before applying it.
For modelers of British carrier aircraft in 1:72 scale who want the landing gear bays clean with no lengthy masking with tape. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the package, unless stated otherwise.
