A 1:72 decal sheet with three finishes carried by Panavia Tornado GR.4 machines at the farewell to the type at Marham in the spring of 2019.
Responsibility details are not available.
The final weeks of service of the Panavia Tornado GR.4 jet bomber with the Royal Air Force fell in March 2019. For the occasion the Marham base in Norfolk turned out several machines in a special finish, and those are the content of this sheet. Until then the type had served for four decades and had been through combat deployment from the Persian Gulf to the Middle East.
Three options, all from Marham in 2019. The first is machine ZG752 in what is called the original service camouflage, that is the finish the type wore in the GR1 version at the beginning of its career. The second is ZG716 with the emblem of No. 31 Squadron. The third is ZG775 with the markings of No. 9 Squadron. Both squadrons were among the last to operate the type, and both said goodbye to it with their own graphics on the vertical tail and on the fuselage.
A farewell finish is applied in the Royal Air Force only exceptionally and tends to be far more colorful than an ordinary service scheme. Squadron colors, historical badges and the names of machines appear on it that would never pass in everyday service. A return to the original camouflage is a particularly rewarding subject, because on a single model it shows how the type looked at the beginning and at the end of its service.
The 1:72 Tornado is a fairly small model and the graphics of the farewell schemes are intricate, so it pays to work with a sharp scalpel and cut the individual elements out close to the artwork. Apply a gloss coat to the area under the decal and, once it has dried, go over it with a softener so that the film beds into the panel lines on the fuselage. The kit and the paints are not in the package.
