1:72 FG.1 Phantom

Photo-etched set for the Phantom FG.1 in 1:72 scale

An accessory from Eduard in photo-etched metal, meant for a model of the Phantom in the FG.1 version in 1:72 scale. It is not a kit but a set of thin parts with which the details of a model under construction are replaced or completed. The scope of the set, and the kit it is tuned to, are given in the manufacturer's instructions.

The real subject

The FG.1 designation was carried by the British form of the American F-4 Phantom II, procured for the Fleet Air Arm. It differed from the American machines in its British engines, because of which it was given wider air intakes and a reworked rear fuselage, and in modifications for operating from the smaller British aircraft carriers. The nose leg of the landing gear could be extended to raise the nose before a catapult launch, and the radome folded back so that the aircraft would fit into the ship's elevator. Some of these Phantoms later passed to land-based squadrons.

How to work with photo-etch

• cut the parts off with a sharp blade on a hard surface, and do not snap them out
• make the bends along the scored line, in a bending tool or between two blades
• it is bonded with super glue, which you lay on with a pin in the tiniest amount
• degrease the parts before painting and lay a primer under the paint, otherwise the coat will not hold on the smooth metal
• work over a cutting mat and move small parts with tweezers

Who the set is for

Rather for modelers who already have experience of photo-etch. With parts of this size you cannot do without tweezers, a sharp blade and a steady hand.

An add-on set is what is supplied. The kit, the paints and the glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
