The Fleet Air Arm is the air component of the Royal Navy, and over the course of their existence its units usually passed through several types of machine, from piston aircraft to helicopters. The markings of naval aircraft also differ from those of the land-based Royal Air Force: they tend to carry the code of the parent ship or station and suit operation in an environment that is exceptionally hard on finishes. Once a decal is settled, water remains under the film, and it is precisely that which decides the result. Blot the surplus away with the corner of a soft cloth or a paper towel laid beside the motif, not by drawing it across. Press the rest out with light pressure from the center toward the edges. Then leave the model alone for several hours, without touching it and without varnish. A decal that is polished or coated over before the water under it has dried will draw itself into small waves that can no longer be smoothed out.
