Fokker D.VII rib tapes linen in 1:72 scale is a set of rib tape decals from the Czech maker Eduard, in a version matching the color of undyed covering fabric. It is not a kit, but an accessory for finishing a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
The package contains waterslide decals of the narrow tapes that on the real aircraft covered the stitching of the fabric covering to the wing ribs. The linen version matches the shade of undyed covering fabric, that is the light natural color that modelers choose for machines finished without a top coat on the flying surfaces. The set is made by the Czech company Eduard. It is not an aircraft model, but a finishing accessory for a plastic kit in 1:72 scale.
The Fokker D.VII is a German fighter biplane from the last year of the First World War. It is characterized by a welded steel tube fuselage frame, a thick wing section and fabric covering on the flying surfaces. The stitching of the covering to the ribs was covered with narrow tapes, whose shade differed according to whether the covering was left in the natural color of the fabric or overpainted. The linen version matches the first of those possibilities.
The surface has to be glossy, otherwise a whitish veil forms under the decal. Light tapes also react sensitively to the color underneath, so apply them only over a finished and fully cured coat on the covering, not over a primer. Cut each tape out separately, soak it briefly in lukewarm water and let it release to one side, and only then move it with tweezers. Keep them parallel by following the engraved rib lines, or mark the position in advance with a soft pencil. Finally wash the remains of the adhesive off with clean water and seal the surface with a matte varnish so that the covering does not look glassy.
The set contains decals only. The kit, paints and varnishes are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
